cheaper trash

I had an aha moment recently. If you follow this, you'll know that my daughter has been sick pretty frequently. Well, in the last few weeks, add my husband and myself to the list. In the midst of that, our cupboards got bare and we made a list not of what we needed but of the things we didn't need - because that list was shorter by a lot!!

One of the things we ran out of was trash bags - the tall kitchen ones. I frequently use plastic shopping bags (for when I've forgotten my free reusable ones) for the small trashes, but the tall kitchen ones? I was desperate & not in any condition to leave the house. Among the ignored mail on the floor, I found a charity pick-up mailer. Yep, the bags they send fit in the tall kitchen trash!!!! I would have been mortified to know how excited this could make me, but it did. We don't get enough of those to make that work all the time, but it got us through until the next store run.

If you're like me, you wait until you have a full bag or more and then schedule a charity pick-up, so you don't use all of those bags anyway. I used to recycle those plastic bags which is well & good, but if they can be used in place of something I'd buy, they reduce waste in our budget and in the world at large!! Everyone wins!
