We are in the middle of facilitating a delivery of meat, and ordering as a group has a lot of savings! We have used the same farmer - Walnut Ridge Farms - several times, and they will deliver to the Twin Cities. With a number of families, we are able to get a rate of half what one of the families was paying at the grocery store which is awesome! It's free range, and very natural, plus super fresh. Our deep freezer makes it even better because the last piece we get to tastes better than what we get at the grocery store - still much fresher! In the past, we were able to do this with chicken and pork - I still have a contact for pork, as well. Some of Dave's coworkers have shares in a farm and my brother and his family did that for a while, as well, which can also be a cost-effective way to get fresh, natural, local food - check out the pricing before you do it, and ask people you know to go in with you. One delivery included 7 families and over 400 pounds of meat between beef, pork and chicken - we ate very well for a long time! It took maybe a half hour to organize, and it comes deep frozen, so that worked. The families picked it up at our house about an hour after it was delivered to us, which gave us time to organize it fairly and figure everyone's share in the price - pretty slick! Give it a try sometime. If you know me personally and want in - let me know by Thursday - we can get some more, I think. Have a great holiday weekend if I don't talk to you before then.
