practically free retreat/relaxation

I have been exposed to a lot of very stressed-out people lately . . . including me. Both my husband and I have had the blessing of going on a virtually free retreat at separate times, however, and it can be very helpful. Do you know someone who has a cabin within driving distance. Maybe that's MN lingo - think vacation place of any kind you're comfortable with & close enough to be cheap for transport. In our case, family cabins.
The word cabin can mean many things - there are a three separate definitions that apply to our relatives, actually. In all cases, electricity and plumbing, which is a must for us. When there is a place sitting empty and you need some time away, this can be a great option. Bring along that book you really want to read but never can, or DVDs/audio books that you like to escape into (and maybe a DVD player if there isn't one there). Sleep whenever you want!!!!! That was the coolest for me - our kid was pretty little at the time & it was delightful - I like to keep wierd hours and many of you may have noticed . . .
Don't know people with a vacation spot of any kind? Consider using loyalty points for a free night at a hotel that's local - seriously, just getting out of the house can be good enough! Maybe you're into camping? Try that! Know some people who will be out of town? Ask if you can stay at their place & be a free house-sitter!
I know many of you are thinking this isn't cheap or free, but it can be very reasonable. Gas is pricey, so don't drive far - notice the word "local" above. Some argue that food is not free - well, it isn't any more expensive in a different kitchen than it is in your own. I brought frozen single portions, since there was a microwave & there are many hotels that offer rooms with mini kitchens that are VERY close in price to a regularl room (my husband travels for work).
Try this - think about what you long to do, ask someone less stressed-out than you how that might look, and try it. Then, prepare to come back realizing that you don't know how to relax anymore & that's why you're stressed out in the first place - at least it's time away ;-)
